In an unusual move, top Filipino agent Gabriel Elorde has come to the rescue of Golden Gloves.
This follows the reluctance of the local Philippines boxing commission to do business with SA promoters after several bad experiences.
Knowing Golden Gloves’ reputation, Elorde has given his personal undertaking that he will stand good for the money.
“We’re back on track,” said Berman. “It was a wobble we didn’t need. As upset as I was, it was difficult to argue given the history between some local promoters and Filipino fighters.”
IBO strawweight champion Simpiwe Konkco will therefore still defend his belt against Lito Dante and Thulani Mbenge will have his fight date against Jay Inson, the WBO number 15, at Emperors Palace on June 10.
