Wednesday was a profitable day for Golden Gloves as CEO Rodney Berman addressed the ratings committee at the WBA Convention in Panama.
As promised, he petitioned the head honchos to award super champion status on Budler in light of his excellence in dominating the strawweight division. He also asked that fellow South African Simphiwe Khonco be mandated to fight for the interim title if indeed Budler is elevated.
“They lent us an ear, so I’m hopeful,” said Berman. He also said that he had requested a top 10 rating for Kamanga given his status as WBA Pan-Africa champion and his continued improvement.
Meanwhile, Berman’s colleague, top Eastern Cape promoter Andile Sidinile, asked the committee for a respectable rating for former IBF super-flyweight champion Zolani Tete who remains one of South Africa’s finest fighters.
