No Christmas cake for busy Ryno

Ryno Liebenberg: matched tough in 2018.

Ryno “The Lion” Liebenberg’s fight against Vincent Feigenbutz has been set for Karlsruhe in Germany on February 24 with the IBF Intercontinental belt on the line.

Yesterday, the IBF gave formal sanction for the super-middleweight championship fight, an optional defence by the German hotshot.

The fight has been approved with the condition that the winner must fight the leading available contender in a mandatory defence within 90 days of the title.

Feigenbutz (27-2) is on a six-fight winning streak and is rated number five by the IBF and number four by the WBA.

The South African (18-5) recently repelled the challenge of unbeaten Patrick Mukala and desperately wants one last run at an international title after falling short in 2016.

“It’s a tough fight for us,” said trainer Colin Nathan, “but Ryno fights best when it’s tough. He’ll be ready.”
