The world awaits the return of boxing.

RE: – PROPOSED BRITISH BOXING BOARD OF CONTROL TOURNAMENTS

With regard to the above, the British Boxing Board of Control are hopeful that Boxing can return in July.

With this in mind, the BBBofC are in discussions with our licensed Promoters to work within the Government guidelines and restrictions to enable Boxing to return in as safe an environment as possible.

Our Promoters are working alongside broadcasting companies to establish suitable venues, etc. and the Board are meeting with its Medical Officers to finalise the medical and Covid testing procedures leading up to a tournament and post tournament.

The Promoters are looking to stage Championship contests and I am in discussion with United Kingdom Anti-Doping in relation to anti-doping procedures and working on ways to carry out check weight procedures within a safe environment.

However, if Sanctioning Body Championships do take place, initially these can only be between two domestic boxers and all officials will have to be BBBofC officials due to the present travel restrictions.  Whilst the officials will be British, we will endeavour to appoint those officials affiliated to the relevant sanctioning bodies.

Obviously, it is hopeful that over a period of time these restrictions will be reduced and at least overseas boxers can be permitted.

It is essential that we keep the numbers of those attending tournaments to a minimum.

It is hoped each Sanctioning Body agrees with the proposed plans.

I am sure you fully understand the difficult situation we are all placed but hopefully we can work together to resume Boxing in the UK in the foreseeable future.

Yours sincerely

ROBERT W. SMITH

General Secretary
