Mendez steps up for Nomeva challenge

Once-beaten Juan Garcia Mendez of Mexico has stepped in to replace Ismael Barosso as Xolisani Ndongeni’s opponent in Los Angeles on November 4.

Ndongeni was left in limbo after Barosso got cold feet, but promoter Art Pelullo made a plan and secured the signature of 24-year-old Mendez (19-1-1).

Reports indicate that he is a useful puncher with 12 knockouts on his resumé.

Mendez has boxed exclusively out of Mexico and will be stepping beyond his home state for the first time.

Given that he isn’t a world beater, Ndongeni will be expected to do the business in explosive style. The average boxing fan in the US has a wealth of options available to him. For Ndongeni to attract their attention, he needs to make a compelling statement.

Belting Mendez would be a good place to start.
