SuperSport’s triple treat for fight fans
It’s a triple treat for boxing fans on SuperSport this weekend with three major tournaments on offer.
On Friday, Sijuta Promotions is hosting a major bill in East London headlined by former WBA super-featherweight champion Simpiwe Vetyeka. It also includes IBO lightweight champion Xolisani Ndongeni (against Emilio Norfat) and former IBF title-holder Nkosinathi Joyi (against Oscar Nkwankwa).
Vetyeka fights Tsoyoshi Tameda of Japan.
The action from the famous Orient Theatre will be live on SS9 from 7pm.
Early on Sunday morning it’s the turn of fearsome middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin who will be chasing his 22nd consecutive knockout against unbeaten Dominic Wade when they fight in California.
Golovkin’s explosive power is made for TV and he is arguably the most exciting boxer in the sport. Also on the bill is WBC flyweight champion Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez, the pound-for-pound king who fights McWilliams Arroyo.
SuperSport 6 will broadcast the action from 4am.
Later on Sunday, on SS10 from 3pm, the focus will move back to South Africa where Kevin Lerena and Johnny Muller top a Golden Gloves fight card.
The cruiserweights waged a mighty battle in 2014 with Muller coming out on top, but Lerena has vowed revenge.
The undercard is jam-packed with SA’s best emerging talent, including DeeJay Kriel, Joshua Studdard and Lucky Mongebane.
