Tricky opponent named for Mbenge
The bout card for “Thunder and Lightning” at Emperors Palace on February 4 has been completed.
In addition to the three main fights, top prospect Thulani Mbenge and light-heavyweight aspirant Rowan Campbell will also box.
Mbenge faces potentially his toughest opponent in the form of Ntuthuko Memela, a fellow southpaw, from KZN, who is 12-3-2 as a pro. The welterweight has mixed in good company, having fought SA champ Sean Ness to a draw and also boxed Tsiko Mulovhedzi, Bongo Lipembo and Luyando Jako. Last year, he also beat shopworn Phillip Ndou to confirm his credentials as a dangerous opponent.
Memela looks like just the right opponent for the big-hitting Mbenge, who has eight stoppages in as many wins. His opponent for next month looks just the type to test himself against; a tough, durable fighter who ought to push him hard.
In other action, Campbell will be looking for win number two against Fhulufhelo Ramaliba of Limpopo.
