Lerena staging open workout
It’s back to work for Golden Gloves.
At midday on Tuesday, promoter Rodney Berman will be on hand for Kevin Lerena’s open day workout at the Smith’s gym in Fourways.
“Look, it’s less than a month until our first tournament at Emperors Palace (February 4),” said Berman. “This is part and parcel of the build-up where fans and media can get a line on Kevin’s form ahead of his fight.”
With reports out of Namibia that Lerena’s opponent, Vikapita Meroro, is hard in training and determined to claim Lerena’s scalp, it stands to reason that the SA fighter can’t muck around.
Defeat at this stage of his career wouldn’t derail his ambition, but it would cause a severe dent in his planning.
The open day won’t be a full-blooded workout, but Lerena will be put through his paces on the pads and heavy bag, all the while aiming to impress what should be a suitably large crowd who will be accommodated by the always obliging Smith clan.
