‘Sho’t Left’ claims the prize

left-hookWe have a winner!

To borrow a phrase from the local tourism lexicon, “Sho’t Left” it is, and we’ve got Bontle Pitsoane to thank.

His prize is a night’s accommodation at Emperors Palace and two tickets to the “Southpaw Showdown” tournament at Emperors Palace on October 22.

Bontle’s entry for the “Southpaw Showdown” slogan competition was “Easy Way Short Left” and local sheriff (Rodney Berman) decided that was the standout from an admittedly high standard of entries and duly abbreviated it.

A couple of others struck a chord – “Left Hook City”; “When Nothing Goes Right, Go Left” and “Train Like Hell, Box Like Heaven” among them – but Berman was particularly taken by the pithy, powerful entry of Bontle.

The expression dates back a dozen years and was a creation of SA tourism, as in “local is lekker when you take a sho’t left”.

It fits perfectly with the theme of October 22 when four top southpaws – Kevin Lerena, Micki Nielsen, Chris van Heerden and Sacky Shikikitu – will headline the fight action at the casino.

Bontle must please contact Jeff Ellis at afriring@tiscali.co.za or on 0784573030 to claim his prize.

Thank you to everyone for entering!
