Ryno lined up against world #3

The trouble with shouting out allcomers is that eventually someone steps forward.

That’s the case for Ryno Liebenberg, who looks likely to face fast-rising prospect Erik Skoglund in Europe in April after Sauerland Promotions agreed in principle to the fight.

The confident Liebenberg claims he will fight anyone at light-heavyweight so long as his promoter lines them up.

The Swede looks like the real deal. Unbeaten in 24 outings, he was particularly impressive in his last outing against Derek Edwards, the same man who KO’d current WBC super-middleweight world champion Badou Jack in 2014.

Skoglund also holds a win over former world champion Glen Johnson and, at 24, and ranked third by the IBF, looks well set to launch a world title challenge in the next 12 months – if he gets past the rugged South African.

The fight would be a lifeline for Liebenberg whose two defeats were damaging to his world ranking, coming against Eleider Alvarez and Tommy Oosthuizen, both championship caliber opponents.

“Things are looking up internationally,” said promoter Rodney Berman. “Paul Kamanga has a major international fight lined up and we have a loose agreement for Ryno against Skoglund. This is two big fights and two big opportunities.”
