Rising stars ready to emerge

The law of averages says that not all 16 boxers who compete at the Golden Gloves tournament at Emperors Palace on Sunday afternoon will become stars. Yet the odds are good that at least a handful will enjoy productive careers, perhaps even winning a championship or two.

The beauty is in not knowing precisely who, which makes the weekend event so compelling. A prospective star might be lurking in the shadows. This weekend may be their opportunity to step into the light before an appreciative local crowd and an audience at home, who can watch the live stream on Golden Gloves TV, powered by our Global Streaming Partner iME.

There are several familiar names among the crop of youngsters, including unbeaten super middleweight Dylan Prosser, Charlton Malajika, younger sibling of world champion Ricardo, the skilled Sogcwayi brothers, plus hulking heavyweight Juan Alberts who brings above average poundage to his fights.

With all eight bouts split between six and four rounds, the likelihood is action that is fast and furious. Fewer rounds allow for less margins of error. Boxers must get on top early if they hope to win. The likelihood is those who catch the eye will be given more chances by Golden Gloves.

An entertaining afternoon awaits.
