Monyebane gets lucky with April action

Keen to keep the production line ticking over, Golden Gloves has exciting plans in place for its first development show of 2018.

It will take place at Emperors Palace on April 8.

The headline fight will see Lucky Monyebane defending his Gauteng junior-lightweight title, which sees a welcome return after his SA title setback last year.

“I’m looking forward to seeing a much more mature fighter after his possibly premature challenge for the SA title,” said promoter Rodney Berman, who has a soft spot for the likeable boxer given his emergence from the popular Dikebu boxing project.

Monyebane was likely pitched in too soon against Phila Mpontshana, but he’s had a good rest and is itching to return to the win column.

Other likely boxers on the bill could be Rowan Campbell, who looked so good at super-middleweight against Jackson Masamba in December, and Michael Markram, another youngster on the rise.

Golden Gloves will try and do several such tournaments this year, primarily to provide regular fights to talented young pros who would otherwise have little to no opportunities.
