Hand trouble nixes Kriel bout

A hand injury has forced the cancellation of DeeJay Kriel’s fight against Toto Landero at Emperors Palace later this month.

The WBC International minimumweight champion hurt his hand in the gym and saw a specialist, who suspected that he mistimed a punch which led to a torn ligament. This then led to a ganglion cyst on his wrist.

“I wasn’t able to train. I got back, but then it was stiff again,” said Kriel, who said that the injury needs rest. “I must be 110 percent prepared.”

He will visit the hand specialist next week to determined whether he requires an operation.
