Golden Gloves show goes international with DAZN deal

DAZN, the global sport streaming business with over 20 million subscribers, will be carrying the Golden Gloves tournament at Emperors Palace this weekend.
Promoter Rodney Berman secured the deal this week, ensuring an international audience and putting a fire under headliners Roarke Knapp and Shervantaigh Koopman.
The onus is now on the pair to deliver strong audiences with potentially 200 countries tuning in for the “No Mercy” show.
Berman was delighted. “This reflects well on the strength of our junior-middleweights, and the interest in Knapp and Koopman, in particular, as they are beginning to make headlines beyond South Africa. This is an amazing opportunity to showcase South African boxing to the world. We produce world-class events and this is the chance for the who’s who of boxing to see for themselves.”
Terms of the agreement include the exclusion of Africa from the stream, on the basis that Pan-African broadcaster SuperSport, with whom Golden Gloves has a contract, is broadcasting the tournament across the continent.
“Beyond Africa, the exposure is unbelievable,” said Berman. “There are huge possibilities, not least when the world gets to see the quality of our shows and the boxing itself.”
DAZN has become a major player in boxing in a relatively short time, locking in deals with major promoters and others across the globe, giving it a strong foothold in an ever expanding market.
