On Friday, he met with a delegation from the region led by Kagiso Moleko, coordinator of Dikebu Golden Palace, and one of the driven men whose vision it was to form a partnership.

In April it will be 10 years since the agreement, with a commitment to keep the area crime- and drug-free, encouraging youngsters to pursue sport and good health.

Said Moleko: “We haver managed to mobilise and empower young people in rural communities in both education abnd sport, producing one pro boxer [Monyebane] who carries the hopes of the enture province.”

Indeed, the support the lightweight gets when he fights is extraordinarty, with hundreds of fans taking the long haul to be ringside.

To mark the 10-year milestone, Golden Gloves will host a tournament in the region on April 27 2019. Notwithstanding that it will be a professional tournament, entrance will be free.
