Rap and rumble as Knapp faces battle of beats and brawn

Exciting junior middleweight Roarke Knapp steps into the unknown in more ways than one next week when he challenges local hero Bakare Samaké for the WBC Silver belt in Paris.
Their showdown, unusually, will serve as the opener for a rap concert featuring Gazo at the Paris La Défense Arena. A staggering 40 000 people are expected to attend the concert in Europe’s largest indoor arena.
None of which will be new (or daunting) to Samaké, however, who is friends with another top rapper, Uzi, who has accompanied him to the ring.
The usually unflappable Knapp isn’t likely to be thrown off his game, though, combining iron will with laser-like focus to get the job done – hopefully. This is the biggest test of his career.
“It’s a hugely important fight,” said promoter Rodney Berman from Europe. “If Roarke is to fulfil his dream of becoming world champion, winning in Paris is vital. It will test him in many ways, especially being away from the comfort of home. He will have to be dialled in like never before.”
Samaké, trained by his father, has been making waves in the boxing world, particularly in France. Known for his agility, power, and strategic prowess, the 21-year-old has quickly risen through the ranks to become a formidable opponent.
His journey in the sport has been marked by significant achievements and a growing fan base who recognise him as one of the most promising boxers in the country.
His style is a blend of speed, precision, and tactical intelligence, and he is known for his quick footwork, which allows him to manoeuvre around opponents with ease. Samaké’s ability to read his opponents and adapt his strategy mid-fight is one of his key strengths, making him a versatile and unpredictable athlete.
One of the Frenchman’s most significant victories came when he was crowned the WBC Silver champion in his most recent fight, last November. He outboxed durable Wade Ryan, breaking him down to win in seven cold, calculating rounds.
What sets Samaké apart is not just his physical abilities but also his mental fortitude and sportsmanship. He is known for his humility and respect for his opponents, both inside and outside the ring. Samake’s dedication to continuous improvement and his ability to stay focused under pressure make him a standout athlete whose performances often draw large crowds.
It is from these virtues that Knapp must somehow find a weakness to exploit next week. When he is in his rhythm, busy and confident, he is a dangerous fighter. He needs to bring these qualities together to upset the French hero, who won’t succumb easily.
