UK, US broadcast breakthrough for Golden Gloves

In a first for South African boxing, next month’s “Call to Glory” event will be streamed live in the US on the fast-growing KlowdTV network.

It will also be broadcast live on BoxNation, the UK’s 24-hour boxing dedicated pay TV channel with hundreds of thousands of subscribers.

Confirming the news on Tuesday, promoter Rodney Berman said that the overseas broadcasts would give significant exposure to the fighters. BoxNation is well-established as a prime platform for boxing fans, while KlowdTV enhanced its burgeoning reputation by broadcasting the final of the recent World Boxing Super Series.

KlowdTV, which started four years ago, is a live-streaming subscription platform compatible with desktop computers and mobile devices, along with Roku, Google Chromecast and AppleTV.

“New frontiers,” said Berman, aware that the broadcast world is fast changing, notwithstanding his long-standing relationship with SuperSport, which will cover sub-Saharan Africa interests on September 1.

With both Thabiso Mchunu and Tommy Oosthuizen building up a big head of steam before their cruiserweight showdown, these are significant developments, both for Golden Gloves and the ambitions of the boxers.
