US fighter keen on Lerena job
The world moves in mysterious ways, as Rodney Berman has just discovered.
He was recently sounded out by Nick Kisner, curious to know if he might be in the mix for a crack at IBO cruiserweight champion Kevin Lerena.
Kisner (19-3-1) is the NABF champion and fights out of Baltimore.
Berman has other plans for Lerena, who next boxes in February, but he offered the American a sparring gig with the champion. There’s also the possibility of a spot on the February undercard at Emperors Palace.
Lerena is always on the lookout from top quality sparring and Kisner would appear to fit the bill. He’s a rough and ready pro who has boxed all over the US and has been in tough with fighters like Lateef Kayode.
Kisner himself has ambitions of a title crack, so if he secures a couple of good wins, he may find his ranking improves to the point that he qualifies for a shot at Lerena.
“We’ll definitely help if we can,” said Berman, who likes the possibilities. “We’ll chat to Kevin and take it from there.”
