The Golden Gloves gongs for 2017
It’s been another big year, both internationally and locally.
For Golden Gloves, it was a year of more highs than lows as new champions were crowned and some struggled.
For Rodney Berman, the ledger is in credit as he contemplates a big 2018.
Here, then, the Golden Gloves awards for the past year.
SA Boxer of the Year: Zolani Tete.

International Boxer of the Year: “It must be Anthony Joshua after his excellent fight against Wladimir Klitschko.”
SA Fight of the Year: “Hekkie Budler’s fight against Milan Melindo in September. Not even questionable officiating could dampen the quality of the contest.”
International Fight of the Year: “Only one: Joshua versus Klitschko.”
SA Prospect of the Year: “I’d like to say Azinga Fuzile and Thulani Mbenge, but as they’re SA champions, I’ll plump for Rowan Campbell, who came through a real test last week.”
SA Disappointment of the Year: “Sadly, Thabiso Mchunu, who promised so much only to produce a lacklustre performance when given a great opportunity in the US against Constantin Bejenaru.”
International Disappointment of the Year: “The scoring fiasco that soured GGG’s excellent performance against Canelo.”
