His work ethic was incredible, and he was one of the rare breed of trainers who would get up at 4 in the morning to ensure that his fighters were doing their roadwork.
He is a great loss to South African boxing, and it is somewhat sad that one’s greatness is only really fully appreciated in death, but again there is that old cliché that true greatness is never truly recognised during one’s lifetime.
