Neutrals for ‘Repeat or Revenge’
If the first fight caused a stir in boxing circles, Golden Gloves is taking no chances with the rematch between Thabiso Mchunu and Tommy Oosthuizen.
Promoter Rodney Berman has already contacted the World Boxing Council, the mother body of the African Boxing Union, to ask for neutral judges.
Oosthuizen won a majority decision against Mchunu, although several fans – and Mchunu’s camp – were unhappy with the verdict.
Golden Gloves has since learned that a South African, an Italian and a Ghanaian will be on hand for the December 8 return, ensuring there is no suggestion of bias as the cruiserweight southpaws go to work.
“I think this is the way to go,” said Berman. “These guys are so evenly matched, with little to separate them. And there’s enough on the line to ensure another absorbing fight.”
