Fiery match-up in the works

Lusanda Kominisi, left, and Xolisani ‘Nomeva’ Ndongeni – on a collision course.

Golden Gloves is working towards an intriguing local fight – matching new signing Lusanda Komanisi against unbeaten Xolisani Ndongeni.

“I’m confident we’ll work it out,” said promoter Rodney Berman. “Both guys need the action and Komanisi’s style will make it a fascinating bout.”

Komanisi would presumably have to move up from featherweight to meet Ndongeni at lightweight or even catchweight.

The former IBO featherweight champion hasn’t fought since September, but is hard at training since recently signing a deal with Golden Gloves. At his best, he’s an aggressive, hard-hitting fighter who presses the action, which would pose an interesting challenge for the defensive-minded Ndongeni.

“Nomeva” (24-0), now trained by Sean Smith, scored a regulation win over Abraham Ndauendapo in April, but has struggled to impose himself on the world scene even after moving temporarily to the US where hopes of a fight came to nought.
