Big booty on offer for Super Four
The Super Four cruiserweight tournament continues to gain momentum with interest from all corners of South Africa.
Given the excitement, Golden Gloves has agreed to have a special belt made for the champion, who will be crowned at Emperors Palace in October.
He will get to keep this in honour of winning a tournament that offers both intrigue and anticipation.
Golden Gloves boss Rodney Berman revealed that he was also contemplating making the four-man tournament an annual event depending on what happens to be the liveliest division above welterweight at the time.
Twice he’s opted for cruiserweight – Thabiso Mchunu won the inaugural Super Eight in 2012 – but Berman says he will consider other weight classes.
It’s in keeping with his habit of offering something different on an annual basis and deserves to be applauded, particularly in a tough economy.
