Berman sounds out GGG for SA
Long a fan of world middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin, promoter Rodney Berman has invited boxing’s most exciting fighter to the “Night of Reckoning” tournament at Emperors Palace on June 11.
Berman has reached out to the Kazakh juggernaut via Tom Loeffler, Golovkin’s promoter and a long-time friend of Berman’s.
“GGG is a massive rolemodel worldwide the way he conducts himself in and out of the ring,” said Berman. “South Africans would see how a real champion conducts himself.”
Berman has twice promoted Golovkin in Monte Carlo and has only praise for the fighter and his management.
“For all his brilliance, there is no ego whatsoever. He is a man who goes about his work with diligence and precision. Any boxer looking to follow the path to success could take a leaf out of his book. He’s also a pleasure to deal with, not least because Tom is one of the gentlemen of boxing. I’m not surprised GGG has built up a huge following, even as an outsider. His view on the world and his attitude is so refreshing for a top-tier sportsman.”
GGG’s visit would be for promotional purposes only and Berman envisages hosting a meet-and-greet event, among other things for the future Hall of Famer who last weekend blasted out Dominic Wade for his 22nd straight KO win.
