Knapp heads to France for high-stakes showdown with Bakary Samake

South African boxing star Roarke Knapp is set to face a major test in his career as he travels overseas for the first time to take on France’s Bakary Samake. The bout, scheduled for April 18, will be contested for the prestigious WBC Silver junior middleweight title, a crucial stepping stone on Knapp’s journey toward world championship glory.

Knapp, known for his relentless all-action style, is fresh off an impressive victory over Adones Cabalquinto that cemented his status as one of SA’s top boxing talents. However, this fight presents a different challenge altogether. He’ll not only be fighting a tough, highly regarded opponent but will also contend with the pressures of competing on foreign soil, where hometown judges don’t always favour visiting fighters.

Samake, a former IBF Youth champion, has earned a reputation as one of Europe’s brightest young prospects. Recently ranked among Boxing News’ top 10 international fighters aged 21 and under, the Frenchman combines skill, toughness, and ambition, making him a formidable opponent for anyone in the division.

In his last bout, he claimed the Silver belt by outclassing Australia’s Wade Ryan in seven rounds in November.

Despite the challenges, Knapp has one critical advantage – experience. At 25, he’s faced a higher level of opposition than the 21-year-old Samake and has shown he can adapt under pressure. His come-forward style ensures fans are in for an exciting contest, as Knapp thrives on engaging his opponents head-on, leaving no room for doubt about his intentions in the ring.

“Of course there’s risk travelling overseas to face a hometown fighter, but Roarke has never declined a challenge,” said Golden Gloves promoter Rodney Berman. “Samake is on the radar of most major promoters, so winning would bring great benefits.”

This fight is more than just a battle for a belt. It’s an opportunity for Knapp to prove he belongs on the world stage. A win would bolster his credentials and set him firmly on the path to a world title shot. But to achieve that, he’ll need to deliver one of the best performances of his career against a talented young opponent with plenty to prove on home turf.

Knapp’s April assignment promises to be a thrilling clash of styles, determination, and skill, a true test of his ambitions as he looks to make his mark on the global boxing scene.
