Emperors Palace set for a triple threat thriller
Three title fights and a whole lot of talent.
This is what’s in store for fight fans at Emperors Palace on July 5 when Golden Gloves stages “Titans of Africa”.
In confirming the cracking lineup earlier, promoter Rodney Berman said his big stable had to be kept busy, which is why he is rolling out events one after the other. This tournament follows Saturday night’s successful event at the casino venue.
Early next month Charlton Malajika will headline against RV “Crusher” Deniega of the Philippines for the IBO Youth title, due reward for a boxer who has been in hot form the past 12 months. His older brother Ricardo, an IBO champion himself, tells anyone who will listen that Charlton is the better boxer which, even if half true, means the bantamweight is a special talent.
Stablemate Beaven Sibanda has already moved beyond the prospect stage and will be tested by Richard Garde, also of Philippines, in their IBF International minimumweight championship bout. The charismatic Zimbabwean memorably gave Siya Kuse a rousing challenge and is doubtless being primed for a world title shot before long.
Meanwhile, the African Boxing Union has given its blessing for the Dean Promnick-DonJuan van Heerden fight to be for its vacant middleweight title. It’s a compelling match between a promising young upstart in Promnick and a rugged, established professional in Van Heerden.
The winner gets to take the high road.
Hot prospect Dylan Prosser will also feature, with light heavyweight Seth van Aswegen having his second bout as a pro. Joining him will be stablemate Jarred Hensburg, a former amateur cruiserweight champion, making his debut in the paid ranks.
