Boxing icon aims for December trip

Lennox Lewis always was a master of timing.
Little surprise, then, that the former world heavyweight champion is pushing out his next trip to South Africa. He now plans to attend the December 6 tournament at Emperors Palace (rather than later this month) in order to accompany promoter Rodney Berman and Adrian Ogun, the director of Lion Promotions, to the WBC convention in Hamburg, starting two days later.
Additionally, Lewis’ calendar is jampacked with talks and appearances across the UK, making the December visit more viable.
“Lennox has become a real friend and ally to South African boxing,” said Berman, who is deep in talks with Lewis’ promotional business to collaborate with his stable. “He has big plans in store for Lion Promotions and we’re especially excited that he wants to work with our fighters.”
Berman, of course, has a long history with Lewis, the former three-time heavyweight champion, having promoted his 2001 championship bout against Hasim Rahman in SA.
Lewis was also in town last year and was a welcome, popular guest, spending time with fans and visiting local gyms to run his eye over the talent.
His status as one of the most accomplished champions of the modern age remains, so too his standing as a legendary champion.
