In a dramatic turn of events, the featherweight Super Four final has been put on ice due to an undisclosed medical condition affecting SA champion Azinga Fuzile.
“This must be resolved before we can do anything,” said a clearly concerned Rodney Berman. “His management is dealing with it, after which we can confirm plans.”
Fuzile was due to meet Lerato Dlamini in the final.
Rather than keep Dlamini in limbo, Berman has signed him to fight Rofhiwa “War Child” Maemu, the busy, hard-hitting boxer from Venda rated number three in SA.
The WBC International belt will be on the line.
He famously put the spokes in Adam De Moor’s ambitions in 2012 and has mixed in good company, having fought the like of Paul Kamanga, Fuzile and Tshifhiwa Munyai. Trainer Alan Toweel jnr rates him highly and suggests he’ll have too much for Dlamini.
The fight will take place at Emperors Palace on April 8.
Significantly, there is also a vacant spot on the June 23 bill, presumably for the Super Four final, but this will be in abeyance until the situation surrounding Fuzile becomes clearer.
The April 3 bill is stacking up nicely with Rowan Campbell in the mix, potentially as a “arm-up” for an SA title challenge in June.
Lucky Monyebane, the Gauteng champion, will also feature in a title defence.
