World title challenger Kuse joins Golden Gloves investment scheme

Rising boxing star Siya Kuse, the reigning World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver mini-flyweight title holder and a world title challenger, has signed on to the Golden Gloves investment scheme, an innovative programme designed to secure his financial future beyond the ring.

As part of the scheme, fighters like Kuse contribute 10% of their fight purses into a professionally managed investment fund, run by Old Mutual, making it obligatory for all Golden Gloves boxers. This approach ensures fighters benefit from expert financial guidance and build a nest egg they can truly forget about until it matures.

Promoter Rodney Berman explains, “It’s been a bugbear of mine for years. I’ve seen too many fighters retire without money or savings. I thought there might be resistance, but they’ve all gone for it.”

Kuse joins an impressive roster already benefiting from the scheme, including the Thysse brothers, Roarke Knapp, the Malajika brothers, DonJuan van Heerden, Shervantaigh Koopman, and Juan Alberts.

Said Berman: “Siya came to my office with Brian Mitchell, and I told him one of the major things he must understand is that he’s got to get an investment scheme. I could see that he was happy with that. When fighters are with Golden Gloves, when they finish with us they are financially sound.”

Fighters cannot access their investments for at least five years but receive regular updates showing their investment’s growth, often to their surprise. The scheme also includes monthly life and funeral insurance, providing crucial additional security.

Independent financial experts from Old Mutual guide every fighter through personal consultations, explaining investment options and allowing them to choose where their money is allocated, fostering pride and ownership in their financial growth.

“It’s a real privilege for us at J Krogh & Associates to work with Golden Gloves, helping their fighters invest wisely and secure their futures beyond the ring,” said broker Johan Krogh. “It is so gratifying to witness the appreciation the boxers exhibit when we meet after a fight to discuss their portfolio.”

With Kuse now on board, Golden Gloves continues to set a new standard for fighter welfare and financial responsibility in South African boxing.
