The World Boxing Council has paid warm tribute to Shona MacTaggart, the Golden Gloves stalwart who died earlier this week.

The tributes were led by WBC president Mauricio Sulaimán Saldívar himself, who said from Mexico: “I am so sorry to learn this sad news . I kindly ask you to convey to her family the deepest feelings and condolences from the WBC family and the Sulaiman family.”This view was shared by vice-president Mauro Betti of Italy.

In a personal note to Rodney Berman, he said: “I am just shocked at the sad news of Shona passing away. Please convey to her family members my deepest condolences. I am close to you and to all of them in this very sad moment. Shona will be greatly missed.”

Berman has been inundated by such messages, reaffirming, he said, just how respected and admired Shona was.
