Fight Island 2 coming in hot

Cape Town’s boxing resurgence continues with Fight Island 2 now less than a month away.
Six months after the wildly successful first event, Cabo Beach Club will again showcase many of the region’s best emerging boxing talents, on April 26.

Among them will be several Golden Gloves fighters on account of Rodney Berman partnering with Insane Boxing Promotions, who continue to develop combat sport in the Western Cape.

The entire fight card will be streamed by iME, the video tech platform fast making inroads in local boxing.
Many of the area’s best prospects will box on the show, headlined by Dean Promnick whose first year as a professional, in 2024, yielded four straight wins.

Beaven Sibanda, the accomplished mini flyweight, will also feature. Golden Gloves is keen to get him back on the horse, so to speak, and he’ll be tested by recent SA title challenger Malakhi Sobolo in a scheduled eight-rounder.

Big Jean Alberts, meanwhile, is being kept busy and will fight Cape Town-based Freddy Kwayinyoma. Alberts is being fast-tracked to a Youth title shot and thus can’t afford a slip-up against a man who scored a first-round KO win in his debut.

Saarah Karriem, another Golden Gloves boxer, is already well established on the Cape Town fight scene. However, the 26th will mark her professional debut at featherweight, fittingly before a home crowd already used to her amateur heroics.

There are several others on the card well worth keeping an eye on, among them
Ariel Meez-Raci and Caleigh Swart, both products of Matt Leishing’s prolific MADfit MMA gym.
