Malajika hunts WBC title against Zambia’s hometown star

Having recently won the IBO Youth bantamweight title, South Africa’s Charlton Malajika will next contest the WBC International championship against David Mwale of Zambia.
The fight has been signed for Lusaka on December 27, Mwale’s backyard, which won’t hold any fears for Malajika, whose amateur career saw him fight throughout Africa.
Malajika has been on a hot run of form in 2025, his three wins yielding a pair of knockouts and increased scrutiny from boxing fans drawn to his electric style.
Mwale’s own journey is a classic rags-to-riches story. Rising from Kalikiliki Compound, the biggest township in Lusaka, he followed the boxing passion of his late brother, Adam. Discovered by Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotions in 2012, they supported his career and education, helping him graduate high school.
The southpaw also built a spectacular amateur record (103 wins, two losses) and now serves as a police officer, having been promoted from sergeant to inspector after his recent WBC win. Currently the WBC International and African Boxing Union (ABU) bantamweight champion, he dreams of becoming a world champion and establishing an orphanage and boxing academy.
